We thank all participants very much for their contribution to the QDDJ conference.
Welcome
This conference "Quantum Dynamics in Dots and Junctions: Coherent Solid State Systems" will take place in Riva del Garda, Italy, in the period from October 5 to October 10, 2008. This meeting will bring together about 100 people, including many experimentalists, working on coherent dynamics of quantum dots and Josephson junctions.
The recent excitement about quantum computing has boosted a lot of interest in quantum-coherent dynamics of solid state devices, such as semiconductor quantum dots and superconductor-based Josephson junctions. Since the beginning of the fever in 1999, the experimentally verified coherence times have increased by three orders of magnitude, expanding from nanoseconds into microseconds. The on-going research has generated a lot of basic questions related to the quantum physics of macroscopic systems. This conference will bring together internationally recognized experts in the field. The main focus of the meeting will be to advance our understanding of the origins of decoherence in quantum dots and Josephson circuits. This should pave way towards scalable quantum information processing and many exciting applications beyond it.
Conference Topics:
- Macroscopic quantum coherence in quantum dots and Josephson junctions
- Decoherence mechanisms in semiconductor and superconductor devices
- Manipulation quantum states of electrical circuits
- Readout of quantum circuits
- Non-classical microwaves and circuit QED
- Quantum-limited detectors and amplifiers
